chickencam
I am just curious to see how many people have girls older than 4 years old, also does anyone have an original Omlet hen from when the company first formed? My remaining original Omlet Pepperpot Mother is now 4 and her eglu companion Bertha my Light Sussex will be 4 in a couple of months. They both look hale and hearty and ready for spring. Mother only laid a few eggs last year, but Bertha laid 5-6 lovely uniform eggs per week. I am hoping that she will come back into lay in the next week or so, she has a red comb and her droppings have gone back to being runny which seems to be a characteristic of hers when she is in lay. The Dogmother
I have a 6 year old who is slowly winding down, no eggs for about 18 months but a great brooder. Last week I had to euthanase a poorly 5 year old hen who was still laying well last year. Unfortunately, the better layers wear themselves out
beckyfitz
My Black Rock is almost 4. She is the hardiest chicken I've had, surviving her sister & a duck (fox) and two much younger hens (ill health). She laid for about a week early Jan & has just started again this week, I think she's doing well for an old girl Becky x
Egluntyne
I have a couple of 5 year old Pepperpots. They haven't laid an egg in ages, but bimble about quite happily.
Redwing
I have a five year old barred Wyandotte. She has never laid an egg in her life and has ended up with me as a pet
