Lorri-d
We only got our girls on saturday evening but this morning when we got up it looks like something has tried to dig it's way in! There are digging marks in the ground next to the egg hatch. I've got to go to work this morning but will the girls be safe in the run? We have put some bricks around the outside of the run and would put some tent pegs in but cant find the bloomin things!! Is there anything else I can do or should I shut them away till I get home? Will they be ok? I am quite shocked as we have 2 dogs so thought the scent would keep foxes away plus we have always had rabbits and havent had any problems before. Nearly put the rabbit outside yesterday (he's inside at the moment) glad I didn't!!
chicken bark
How scary. Do you have those extra mesh skirts around the top of the eglu run where it meets the eglu? (earlier eglu's didn't have them but they can be purchased from omlet). The mesh of the run should be safe but as you have discovered the fox will try to dig underneath. I'd get slabs all round the edge asap. Glad your rabbit didn't go outside. It is good to discover these problems early so you can fix them before losing any girls. Patricia W
It could be a rat - and we had a determined squirrel who we saw digging to get in when it was cold! Whatever it is, put some heavy slabs around, or better still re-site the eglu onto slabs. Whatever it is can't get in that way.
Parsley
Hiya As others have said it may not mean it is a fox. We have had a fence buried under and it was a badger . The girls will be safe at night shut in the Eglu and should also be fine during the day in the run if you peg it down. They do say that male urine puts foxes off coming into the garden so you could always get Sam and Max to wee around the perimeter tonight
Lorri-d
Am home now and alls well I was itching to get home and check they were ok! I think I'll move them onto the patio then until we can get some pegs and the extra mesh thingy, better safe than sorry. I haven't waited all this time wanting chickens to have mr fox swipe them! Blimey aren't they a worry Wendy - blimey that'll give my neighbour something to talk about eh, Sam and Max weeing everywhere!
