here are a few pics of what i have out i have one still fluffing up in the inncy and i have one that pipped 2 days ago and every time i look its come on a bit more and its still trying to get out ,do you think its been to long ?

how long do i leave it ,i know i shouldnt help just not really sure what to do , i dont know if i can just sit and wait for it to die half out the shell ,any advice ?

I know nothing about hatching and raising chicks, but I would be inclined to 'help' it . Esp. after watching a video on youtube about a lady who had twins in an egg which aren't supposed to survive but with her help both were hatched successfully .

They are really cute You have the same brooder as me (got mine from ebay, bargain). I think it's OK to help if you are really careful not to break any blood vessels, the last of mine took 2 days and was rolling around incy pulling half the shell still attached to a vessel. I just gently pulled the shell and it came away

i got mine off frecycle i was well chuffed it does the job nicely i think its a rabit cage

What is wrong with me - I'm now thinking an incubator and a rabbit cage wouldn't be too much trouble...

I have 6 silver partridge pekin eggs going under a broody tonight She has been sitting on 2 eggs since Sunday. Bit worried about moving her though, tried once and she got really upset so going to do it at night

Awww what lovely ickle chickies they are adorable

If your little one is still in the shell after two days, i would be inclined to help it along, try wiping the shell with a damp cloth because it may have dried up a bit and be stuck to the shell, then try very gently and carefully to ease the shell away.

I know its not supposed to be what you do but ive lost a chick by leaving it for too long.

awwww they are soooo lovely it's making me think of using my incubatior again when we hatched ours we had to help the chick break the shell abit with a damp cloth so i would help, lets us know how you get on

i helped it out but im starting to regret it a little . it doesnt look quite right ,the membrane had gone solid round it i peeled it away and there was no blood at all but the chick looks very sickly and looks like its foot is a little deformed , one of its toes is really funny ,and its just looks a little misrable ,but im gonna give it the benifit of the doubt as its trying to stand ,but looks really tierd (it has been trying to get out for 2 days ),so i will let it rest over night in the inccy and see how it looks in the morning ,if its getting about and looks ok im not fused about the toes as long as it can get around a lead a normal chickeny life i will be happy but we will see in the morning

Aw well done, it sounds like it wouldnt have made it without your help anyway hun. it will be very tired so fingers crossed hopefully tomorrow it will be a little better

ive fixed it lol

well being a nurse ive just sat watching it and my mind started ticking lol it just couldnt stand on the croked foot and it was bugging me ,so with a small peice of cornflake box and some surgical tape ive made a bit of a splint , i pulled the toes strait placed them on the cardboard and covered it in tegaderm and within 15 mins the chick is up and walking around

it looks quite funny seeing it padding around

im hoping as the toes are so soft i can pull them round t the right place with the splint ,

well at the end of the day if i do nothing it will die so anything is worth a shot

Snap I've acquired that brooder too (from my local council tip, they recycle everthing, always take my purse for just in case). What dear little chicks, they look tiny.

 

Is that wood shavings covering the floor? Is that the best thing to use for chicks? Anxious chick mummy in waiting and wanting to get it right. I would have to help it hatch if it was me, that would also be me making splints etc.

i took the splint off tonight when i got home from work and the foot has stayed in the right place one toe is a little funny but it can get around and walk and you cant tell unless you really look for it

 

after all this it better be a girl lol
