Got new girls today but feeling bit flat now - UPDATE

Recommended Posts

We got our two new girls today, a columbine and a blacktail who are safety ensconsed in their own eglu, next to the 2 big girls WIR. But.... after spending most of this afternoon in the garden watching them all, I've noticed that the columbine seems to have something wrong with her right eye. She spends half the time with it closed and the left one open - particulary noticeable when she's eating or pecking about on the ground when it's completely closed. :(

I plan to call the supplier in the morning and I'm sure they'll be very helpful but after waiting so long to get them I can't help feeling a bit disappointed - we already have one 'special needs' girl who I worry about all the time, I don't think my nerves (or bank balance!) can cope with another. It should have been the end to a lovely day but the excitement I felt earlier has dwindled.

I'd hate to swap her, it would feel so mean but if we do, will we end up introducing it to the other new girl and having pecking order problems, even though they've only been together a day or so? We'll end up doing introductions upon introductions!

Also, when does the constant screeching made by the existing girls stop? I'm sure we'll have the neighbours complaining soon, it's SO loud :(

I would swap her as well. Sure it will be fine and you want a good start not worrying about a poorly girl.

I got a new one last week and the noise from the others was terrible all sat and sun but calmed down after that. Just prey for rain tomorrow so people have their windows closed. If not let the others out and perhaps they'll be distracted. :D

After yesterday's initial worries, things have improved slightly this morning. The columbine's eye (still holding back on her name just in case...) is a bit better - it's open much more and she seems more settled. I'll hold off taking her to the supplier for now and see how she is again tomorrow.

Letting them all out in their respective runs was nerveracking at 7.30am this morning, being a Sunday I thought I'd give the neighbours a small lie in  There was a lot of shouting for the first hour but it's calmed down now, the old girls are FR ing with the new ones still in their run so we'll see how today goes!

They're worse than kids, but wouldn't be without them! :D

My new lady is just so scatty! Screeching at everything - rain, wind, birds, the sky, planes, me, plants, the washing! you name it - she doesn't like it!!!

Once she come in to lay she'll calm down!!!!!
