tracyann
Hi all, Well, I have had my chooks a while now, the perches are looking like they need scrubbing, I have been giving apple cider vinegar once a week to them but what other products do you recommend? I haven't treat the run with anything as yet as I'm not sure what to buy. Any ideas?
Tweety
Hi, I use Poultry Shield to clean the eglu, perches etc and would recommend it. As for supplements, if you are feeding them a good quality layers mash or pellets they shouldn't need much else. Having said that, I give my girls ACV, Herban or Lifeguard one week per month, or more often if they need a boost. As for the run, I use Biodri or Stalosan F. Hope that helps. Chortle Chook
The only additive I use (apart from s"Ooops, word censored!"s of things like pasta, salad greens and mashed potato, oh and their evening corn) is to put about a tbl spn of Bokashi Bran in with their pellets about once a week. This is supposed to make their poo less acidic for when you add it to your compost. It also seems to make them firmer and less stinky When I do their big weekend clean out I puff a bit of Diatomaceous Earth in the corners and on the end of the perches as this is supposed to be good for stopping nasties like lice. (Edited to add that I have a wooden house.)
Sammiboo
My big weekend clean i use antibacterial fairy liquid and scrub everything! I do this every sunday. Tesco have some blu and green 5 piece cleaning set which i bought for the eglu. I have convinced my OH to let me have a plastic shed to put all my chicken gear in as there isnt really any space in the big one. As my run is on the lawn i move the cube after the clean out and rake the garden after to keep it looking half decent
Gertie
I would get some poultry shield, very good for bug busting in the coop. Lifeguard is good. I also use an old oval shaped mop bucket to wash my perches in. You can fit the perches in as the sides are not tapered. I use stalosan f in the run to kill bugs in the ground, and flubenvet to worm the chooks.
