AJuff
I'm starting to get a bit anxious about the chicks hatching. I don't know when to take out the egg tray and put the non slip mat down. What if they hatch on the egg tray? Will they be ok? the Poland eggs are smaller than the exchequer leghorn eggs which makes me think they will arrive early perhaps on Monday. I have the brooder, electric hen, chick crumb etc all ready.
scarlettohara
Stop turning and take out the egg tray on day 18, put the non slip mat down then. My electric hen stopped working today so had a panic, make sure you have a plan B.
AJuff
Thanks for that! Will check out the electric hen tomorrow!
bevmatt
Depending on your incubator that can always be your plan b for a few days - rear them in there it is warm and draft free. If we ever have a chick that has got chilled we pop it in the incubator for a few hours to bring back to temp. Bev
AJuff
Eggs stopped turning today so I took out the egg tray and put the mat down. The eggs rolled to their heavier side! chicks inside! I set up the brooder and checked the electric hen worked which it does. All very exciting. How low should the electric hen be?
AJuff
Two eggs have pipped! So excited! How long until they hatch?
craftyhunnypie
Leave them well alone - very hard to do I know - but it's a must! They can take up to 48 hours to hatch. But most get out within the next 24 hours - leave them in the incy to fluff up once hatched. They will knock the other eggs flying & look all droopy - but don't worry. They will encourage the other eggs to get a move on with hatching. Good luck! Emma.x
