percy049
Lillie the Suffolk Pied keeps shaking her head, as if there's something on there that she cant get off. We've looked, and we cant see anything. She doesnt do it all the time. It might be from when the poultry place put violet spray on her, and it went up her nose. Apart from this, she is fine (apart from being at the bottom of the pecking order). Could it be a cold?
Plum
Ear problem maybe?
Henslaved
That would be my first thought too Plum.

gongladosh
One possibility is ear infection, but also the other possibility is this - has she got any bubbles around her eyes? i once had a hen with mycoplasma - before treatment she was trying to shake off the bubbles. A few days of antibiotics and the head shaking stopped.
percy049
She has been more reluctant to let us go near her and pick her up lately (although we've only had for 1 1/2 weeks), but she was very keen on sleeping on the back of the sofa tonight and last night, and wasnt vary of us at all. It may be because we let her in the garage to sleep later, due to the clocks changing. I will have a good look at her tomorrow. Thanks for the tips, will keep you updated. (sorry about big photos, but photobuckets gone wierd!)
laurmurf
it could be neurological. You get head-shaking in some pure breeds when there's been a lot of inbreeding.
percy049
she doesnt do it all the time, but when she does, she often calls as well, but usually only when we're out with her. My mum said she might have of got into the habit of doing it.
Dolly
I have a hen with mycoplasma at the moment, she has a slightly swollen face on one side (which is also paler than the other) and also shakes / 'wipes' her head and scratches her face as if trying to remove something from it. She went to the vet yesterday and is on antibiotics and is improving already.
