majorbloodnock
You might also want to have a look at Oxford Wood Recycling. They may or may not have what you're after floor boards wise, but it's at least worth an ask. I haven't used them myself, but they're your local member of the Community Wood Recycling Scheme. Charlottechicken
Have you looked around Kidderminster, Clare? Bit nearer to you and they are famous for carpet. They always had lots of warehouses selling off the leftovers too.
The Dogmother
Thanks Claire, I found a couple of places there when I was doing a web search, just need to call through my list and get some samples and prices.

sadietoo
Our local auction house has an outdoor auction bit and sells nice old rugs (kilim (sp?) stylee...that are a bit moth eaten and don't make the big money..(sorry I know I'm not making this sound very attractive)....its just a thought that the style would go with your house, i'm guessing there would be something similar all over the country... the other thought is the braided rug company http://www.braided-rug.co.uk/ may have something that is suitable? (sorry I'm rubbish at links and I'm hoping someone much cleverer than me will sort that out for me....Chucky Mama????) The Dogmother
Well, I've got some samples form a factory outlet on Birmingham - the quality and depth of pile is much better then the local ones and there's a colour that I quite like. I have phoned the outlet which Omletina recommended (lovely lady on the phone) they aren't open weekends and don't have a website that I can see the colours on, so she has a description of what I like and is going to send me some samples and a price list... we're making progress! Aunty e
I rather like John Lewis's cheapest carpet - when I was looking a couple of years ago it was £7 a metre with free underlay and it was really nice. It came in biscuity sorts of colours, oatmeal, ginger etc do you have a link for this? There doesn't seem to be any carpet on their website, which is odd as my friends bought their carpet from there at the end of last year # They don't put it on their website - I went and looked at carpets at the Oxford Street branch, but it's worth a call to your local one to see if they have carpets.
