summer quarters!

Recommended Posts

I have just moved my quail into new summer quarters, and they are definitely very happy, loving the feel of the grass, and making little nests and so on.

I got 2 folding rabbit runs from PaH this morning, and they are great - 1.18m sq, half the top is solid and half wire, so plenty of light and also shade/shelter. got 5 in 1, 4 in the other - and a lone male in the rabbit ark, as he took a beating and I had to separate him. I thought he might have lost an eye, but he's fine - now got to sort him out with some laydeez...

well, today we have one very happy quail cock, because his 3 new laydeeeez arrived today - after a quick 'go' at all of them, he has settle down completely and is a different bird! managed to cobble together temporary accomodation with half an eglu run, some extra wire and lots of cable ties, will have to get one to match the other 2 colonies when I get some money, but it's better than the old rabbit ark he was in.

one of the new girls laid an egg today - woohoo!

well, my temporary accommodation not so good. 2 of the new girls managed to get out underneath, presumably while attempting to escape his amorous intentions. I have found 2 separate piles of feathers in the garden... :(

so now he has one laydee, from whom I have had 2 eggs. as for the other lazy bunch of freeloaders - not a thing.

I am not having any more quail, this lot have pushed their luck too far.

they may have read my last post.... one of the girls in the other lot produced an egg today! cant say I am convinced we will be overwhelmed with eggs though. to be honest, the amount I've spent on housing etc I could probably have bought quails' eggs for the rest of my life!!!
