Introducting our new girls!!!

Recommended Posts

We are in a dilemma..............we have a 12ft x 6ft WIR and have put up a partition so we have our 3 big girls in one half with (cube purple) Cube on the outside and our new girls in the other half with (orange eglu) eglu raised up on a table. Our girls don't free range. They have been like this for 3 weeks now and seen to have settled with no squaring up at the wire partition for the last week or so. The dilemma is do we open the partition and let them meet each other without anything between them or do we leave a little longer?

One of our new girls which are all 20 weeks has laid her first egg !eggspeck! today, the other 2 have still yet to lay, so we didn't know if we should wait until they have all laid or if they would be fine. Our big girls are all 2 1/2 years old.

We need to open the partition at the weekend so we can keep an eye on them as we both work Monday to Friday so are unable to watchout for them.

Any advise would be grateful.

I would go for it but be ready to step in if things get rough. They've probably got most of their squaring up done by now but you'll still get some chasing and trouble unless you are very lucky. Have some perches or things they can run behind if necessary.

Let us know how it goes :D

Good point Plum, we had a corner that was blocked so one girl could get cornered, we moved things around in our WIR so none of the girls could get cornered anywhere also added a table so that they could get up out of the way and lots of perches.

Make sure you have lots of food and water stations to make sure all get access to them.

Good luck you have to go for it at some stage, I put it off for months and months

Well we opened the partiction and only had 1 squareing up where we had to use the water spray.

We let them mingle and merge for 20 mins and then closed then in there wn halves as we are off out nd didn't want to leave them alone.

Will open it again when we get back.

Tonight 2 of the new girls (white chicken) , GNR have gone to bed in the (cube purple) with the big girls, but poor Primrose PP is in the (orange eglu) eglu on her own :(. Heres to hoping she follows tomorrow and goes to bed with all the others.
