Who do you use for holiday car hire?

Recommended Posts

We generally use Holiday Autos, but last time we used them we had a car that broke down & was replaced with one with bald tyres

We did get a full refund, but it ruined a couple of days of the holiday trying to sort it out.

However, they were my first port of call now I am looking to book for our Menorca jaunt in July.

I have had a nightmare with them.................there are luggage capacity inconsistencies on the site, the call centre line isn't working (when you press a number to get through,it doesn't recognise it) & when you do eventually get through the call centre is obviously manned by muppets, because they have NO IDEA AT ALL what the problem is & no intent to try & sort it. I was cut off twice.

I now feel disinclined to let them have my money :lol:

So, any tips on other decent car hire people I can try, please?

I do know the local place at the Airport that Holiday Autos uses, but its about £60 more to deal with them direct.

We use Atlas to find a cheap deal and thats usually with the Budget company who we have found to be excellent, we have used them several times now

One company I would never use again is Europcar who completely fleeced us for all sorts of extra charges including petrol despite the fact that I photographed the fuel gauge when we handed back the car

I always photograph the car from all angles, internally and externally before and after the hire period now

I think some branches of some companies are better than others though whch doesnt help!

I like the Easy car site - its clear, concise & works really well, unlike Holiday Autos one

My head is just spinning with numbers at the moment - prices, doors, suitcases

It doesn't make it easier that some sites give different specs for the same car, when it comes to how many cases they will carry

A couple of pluses for doing it via the Airport (who most of the big companies will put you in the hands of anyhow),is that fully comp insurance with no excess is included.

I will carry on ploughing through.
