Brinsea eco glow brooder

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm just setting up the brooder in anticipation of the chicks hatching on Friday. I see that there's no temperature indicator on it. Should I just put a small thermometer underneath? As the unit gets raised up as the chicks grow, does this regulate the heat so that it gets lower? I understand that the temperature should initially be around 35 degree, is this right?

Thanks, sb

I think the heat stays the same but the higher it is from the chicks the less heat they will get. One tip I had was to set it up with one side higher than the other so the chicks can decide whether to be hotter or cooler.

I wouldn't worry about a thermometer - you can tell if it will be hot enough by the chicks behaviour. If they are huddled up set the brooder lower if they are spread around the edges raise it up and if they are evenly spread about then you have it perfect!

Good luck with the hatch. Photo's when they arrive please. :)

Chicken bark is right, the heat stays the same and it is the height of the brooder that regulates the temperature.

My chicks are now 10 days old, and have been absolutely fine under the Eco Glow at its' lowest setting for the first week. I put it up a notch yesterday, and they seem fine with that level now. Just watch them - they will soon let you know if they are too hot or too cold by their behaviour.

Happy hatching!

I used one from mid january till they were 6 weeks old with no problems I lifted it up a notch once the chicks started to lift the unit up as they stood up some wre in the instructions or on the web site faq's it says that a thermometer in of no use as the eco glow dosen't worm the air so it needs to be in contact with the chicks

oh and from about 3 weeks old the chicks love to sit on the top which makes cleaning it fun the poo moulds it self to the Brisea logo

good luck for the weekend hatch my lot are due Monday then a 2nd batch under a broody on Wednesday
