Cinnamon
I have 3 Autumn Bliss Raspberries in their second year,& I really would like one more,so I wondered if anyone knew if it is possible to snip off one of the side shoots & pot it on? Another possibility is one of the bushes has sprouted a second stem a little bit away from the main plant,so I wondered about splitting this from the main bush & growing it on its own? All help welcomed - I am a bit of a novice at Raspberries
Ain't Nobody Here
I'd like to know the answer to this too . I got 5 canes from my neighbour last year and they did quite well. This year there are new healthy stems all over the place (it's in a very small contained bed under a window). I hoiked up 2 that were a bit crowded and stuck them in a bare spot but they're looking very sad and wilted now (it was only yesterday though). sjp
raspberries do put suckers out which can be used for new plants just dig the up and put the were you want them I'm not sure if it's the right time of year through
Jools
My Autumn Bliss are rampant! I'm glad they're contained in a raised bed on concrete (inside the aviary but that's another story) because I have to thin the new growth each year when it shoots again after being cut back. I don't even like raspberries - I only grow them for hubby. Now I think about it, I've dug them up and moved them once (in winter when dormant) and they were quite easy to separate, so if you want to propagate, you could maybe try dividing one of them. bluekarin
I would imagine they are very much like strawberries, but as I have some raspberry plants in my garden, which are also sending off runners left right and centre, it would be nice to hear from someone who's knowledgeable too
Cinnamon
Hmmmmmmm, well I have dug a couple up,stuck them in,watered them well & will keep my fingers crossed. If the worse comes to the worse & they don't take,I will try again after it has fruited in the Autumn. Thanks for your help, all
beach chick
cinnamon - that's the right course of action. I have a particularly rampant set of raspberries which were dug up one day in Normandy, and bought home by car the next day. (large plastic bag of canes sticking up between my feet for entire journey!!) I doubt it is actually possible to kill the *&(^%$£s!
