Gelbel
Not been here for a while - you know how it goes. We've been discussing making a proper big WIR for a while but costs and all that. I've only gone and had a brain wave on how we can do it on the cheap so are measuring up today. I've a 14' x 11' space beshind my garage where the girls are in a combined house and run with a narrow WIR bolted on. We are going to use about 9' x 8' of the space to make the full WIR. And looking at the awful state of the back fence yesterday (caused by rotten post), I've worked out I can afford new posts and fences and use the good fences from the current fence (keep up with me) to make 2 of the walls (adding posts as needed). We'll use the garage as the 3rd wall and dismantle the current WIR to make the 4th front wall. Top it all off with corregated panels. I will dismantle the current run/house and just use the house for sleeping and nesting. Change out of £170 max - as I guesstimated yesterday - and I get a new secure fence to the end of the garden too (which keeps everyone happy). I've not told the DH I want the roof at the garage side to be 8' high as I want a big shelf put up so I can store all my spare feeders/drinkers etc. But I'll slip that in when I hand over the tape measure later. We've agreed it will be made on the next BH weekend. I can talk him into putting the new fence in the weekend before. Then, better still, if we really crack on, I can get two (or three if DH wants to name one) new chooks next BH Monday. I've names already - hence if he wants to name one we get three more. And I've worked out how to do the separation for the introductions, I just need a bit of genius to work out how to source a cheap house for the newbies during the intros...but then, the local 'how could I live without that' shop has some very solid looking kennels for £30. I am so excited. Can't wait. Pictures will follow when it all happens.
Plum
Sounds like a good plan, the solid fence sides will keep the weather out Don't forget the before , during and after pics
beach chick
definitely a plan, and I like the idea of slipping in the roof height plan as you hand over the tape measure!
Ain't Nobody Here
So you've not been giving this any thought at all . Sounds like an excellent plan and well thought out .
Redwing
Thats pretty much the same design as Falkor's first WIR, it will probably be somewhere on the 'We are all building WIR lets share' thread Its a great run and well sheltered Dont skimp on those fence panels though, they need to be strong enough to keep the fox out
Gelbel
I can not put my hand on my heart and say there are no foxes about - but no one round here has seen any since before the bad winter. Don't worry about the fencing - it'll be very deep and the whole area is extended out with big patio slabs already. The shelf idea has gone down a treat - he realises it will save clutter in the conservatory. I'm nothing short of a genius. I am just costing my options to place the necessary order for delivery in the week...the joys of working from home.
