My hens have always been a happy bunch with no real bullying problem or anything like that, until the interloper white eared pheasant decided to move into my garden and upset things somewhat....think that my bottom hen, Stina the Speckledy, decided it was time to get up the pecking order so she and Freja, my top hen, started to pick on Tiina, one of my favourites, a brown leghorn. She was having a neck moult so they spied bare flesh and decided to go for it. Tiina instantly became the victim and would cluck in a stressed manner when they came near. They really were absolutely vicious. Fortunately I managed to separate them and put the two offenders in the slammer (a puppy cage inside the main run) - they were in there for 4 days with no reprieve then I let them out again and very quickly they made a beeline for Tiina again and were horrible to her. So I decide the only option was to move them on to pastures new where they'd have to re-integrate with another flock. Thankfully, a marvellous friend agreed to take them (thank yooooouuuu so much!) so I took them down there yesterday. They are in an Eglu for a week then will be mixing with her ladies.

Felt so sad to see them go, especially as Freja was my green egg layer, but I had to keep the rest of my flock happy. Just hope they settle in with my friend's girls!!

So now I'm down to just 5 girls.
