jennifer
Hi, We got Cagney & Lacy last Monday 21st May who are settling in well enough and are now roaming the garden. I have a couple of questions (loads really but two for now). We were told the chickens were 16 weeks old when delivered by Omlet - In the day we didn't take much notice of size but 6 days later Cagney is big and butch with Lacy much smaller and does not appear to be growing at all. Is this normal? I have studied the information given and read this site and have a question regarding their poo. Ours are mostly runny with the roost covered on a daily basis. There has been very little solid droppings. Is this again normal or sign of something that needs adddressing. Jennifer

Jennifer I cant help with the size issue as ive never had young birds but as for the poo the girls are probably settling in to their new home and the funny poos could be a side effect from this. You could add some Bokashi bran to their feed and this will bulk them up a little - you can get it from the Omlet shop or try Wiggly Wigglers. Hen Watch
Hi Jennifer, My 4 had the squits for a week when 1st arrived. But it settled down. I think they start eating grass for the first time since being in a barn prior to delivery and it's a shock to the system. But do monitor it. One of my Gingernuts is now hugely fatter than the other Gingernut and laid within few days of arriving and others haven't got going yet. So they might not all be exactly same age. If they are all feeding well then it is OK, but would monitor the skinny one if she's not eating. Also, Miss Pepperpots are skinnier than Gingernuts. Egluntyne
Regarding size my Pepperpot girls are much bigger than the Gingernut girls and one of the Gingernuts (Nugget) is tiny compared to the others. It's early days yet so I wouldn't worry too much....unless the butch one starts crowing...just kidding!
Chickpea
It was the same for my two gingernuts, one is much bigger than the other! (and she is a greedy madame!!)
