kittyl
only a couple of days to go, I'm wondering if the containers I've got for food & water are going to be too big for the chicks. I've got a small hen drinker that I'll put in the run (with marbles) but it wont fit in the box, so I found a small heavy china guineapig bowl that shouldnt tip, but I'm worried it will be too tall to reach. Also a shallow non tip rabbit dish for the food. What do others use in the confines of the hatching area that is suitable until mum takes the chicks outside? Egluntyne
I used upturned jam jar lids for the first few days.
Redwing
Jam jar lids here too, lipped coasters work too they quickly learn to use a drinker even when they are tiny though
bostock422
I use little dishes that you put sauce's in, it works a treat untill the climb in and scratch all the food out
atsw
I use a small plastic bowl to start with. Works well for a couple of weeks, then I move them onto a normal chick-crumb feeder, because by then they have worked out how to empty the bowl by flapping and scratching in it . first, then this -> Andrew

Andrew In the end I tried a little, shallow sauce dish - worked at first but soon got spilt, & now the chicks are a week old they're so greedy I need a bigger dish, I use one like yours Andrew. I'm still having to refill it in the afternoon so I reckon a proper feeder would be better.
Jools
For the first few weeks I use plastic troughs which have wire across the top - you can nearly see what I mean underneath all these bums! Then I move onto small metal dog bowls for a few more weeks - they're designed to be hung from the side of a cage. Eventually, as soon as they're big enough, I switch them to Omlet Peanuts. TryalBuffs
I've just moved my chicks (4 days old) from jam jar lids to a long rectangular plastic feeder with a lid with holes in. They were quick to learn this was the new place to eat...now they seem to enjoy climbing on top of it and dive bombing their mates!!!
