Unsecure chicken perches

I bought about 8 or so of the Levingtons very large grow bags specifically for tomatoes,to grow my greenhouse toms in.

They have been planted up & in situ for about 3 weeks now & 3 of them have developed holes where they are sealed at the ends,meaning water just gushes out whenever I water my plants

They have obviously not been heat sealed properly.

I have called them up & they are going to write to me & offer compensation of some sort,but I am a bit stuck here.

One I have managed to hoist into a shallow trough.so the water drains into that,but the other 2 are too heavy & the plants too large for me to move.

I have tried Duct Tape,but it isn't waterproof enough to cope with all that wetness - any other ideas on what I can do to seal them up a bit? Staples maybe?

I had a similar prob when someone made a hole in one of my growbags. I found that the best way to water was to put up turned 2litre pop bottles in the soil (bottom cut off, but top still on but screwed on very slightly), you then put the water in the bottle and the water should just trickle out over a few minutes rather than pouring in and straight out again. hopefully, the compost will absorb more water that way? I still water most of my pots and GBs like that!

Doesn't really get around the problem, but it might be one way to live with it. I'd be very cross with Levingtons, their GB's are blumin' expensive, I would expect better quality from them?

surely B&Q or similar do some sort of waterproof tape?

Well,Hubby is a builder & he gave me his very best super waterproof stuff,& that peeled off after a week or so - plus I don't want to spend out any more than I have too....these bags were pricey enough as they were.

 

I have those special tomato watering pot things in the bags (they are BRILLIANT BTW, bought 6 last year & have just got 9 more), & am still watering from the top as oppose to watering into the reservoir,as the roots are not far enough down yet.

 

I think I may need to take out some of the soil,roll up the end & get the other half to use his staple gun on them

Would staples do it? compensation is all very well but wont help once your toms are in. Have had same prob in past and used staples with a little success

Could you remove some soil, bunch up the ends and tightly cable tie them?

He got any offcuts of flashband? it'll need to be put on when it's nice and hot in the greenhouse so that it sticks because useing a heat gun is a non starter

the other option is to try and put a bin bag over the open end as far as you can get it then try taping it to the grow bags

the end not been weld properly is confind to grow bags I get it with the run beding bags and some of the potting compost bags (not the same brand as your grow bags) as well
