Chortle Chook
I love my Silkies. It is true that they go broody often and are even happy to sit on absolutely nothing, but I find that picking them off their nest in the morning, at lunchtime and at corn time is just a bigger excuse for a cuddle. This little girl, aptly named 'Dolly' is perhaps my most broody but she is so sweet natured, never minds being picked off her nest and honeslty, could you resist this

Chortle Chook
All my Silkies are really friendly and sweet They do however vary in size. It seems, according to the books, that the standard size is smallish though not classified as a bantam. Recently a bantam has been developed that is 1/3 smaller than the standard. I have one that is quite big - about twice the size of my smallest. They all live happily together and also mix with my Frizzles. They have also, in the past, mixed with my friend's Wyandottes and Pekins. I believe that it is not so much the size that matters when mixing them with others, as the nature of the birds. Silkies are very docile and therefore the other breeds need to be docile too. So mixing with Orps for instance, however big, is just fine. Mollie333
I wouldnt go for a poland either - so,e people have them in a mixed flock ok but its not worth the risk I agree, Polish chickens can be hard to introduce to the flock, i lost one of mine due to this.
