I'm still dithering over which 3 hens to buy but seem to be gravitating towards the larger ones! Would 3 larger breed hens be ok in the classic?

I had 2 large light sussex & 2 japanese bantams in my classic, so 3 would be fine; I wouldn't go squeezing anymore in though unless you had a run extension.

It depends how large you mean. I wouldn't want 3 LF orps, Jersey Giants or cochins to live in it. 2 take up most of the roosting bars so I think the 3rd would be in the nest box - not ideal.

or 2 and/or couple of silkies

Orps and Brahmas are huge but you should be okay with three of the others.

I'd think they'll be fine

Brahmas are huge yes but Orps are mostly feathers. I had 3 big cockerels in my classic last year - smallest one was an Araucana, and they still all squashed up in the eglu.

 

An extension is a good idea if you can, although mine FR'd quite a lot of the time
