How Can I Stop Bike Thieves?

Recommended Posts

...I then graduated to a rusty old Bedford Rascal van... funnily enough that was never stolen either...

Or defaced either, I'll bet. Presumably it's a bit disheartening to think one's best vandalistic efforts might not make a discernable difference. I've had several cars like that.

We have a run around/learner driver car complete with mould. But when several good cars up the road were mindlessly scratched, so was this one.

For the third time :wall: the bike that was stolen was as uncool as you can get (it used to be mine), and in scruffy, basic condition. It wasn't stolen for high value. It's metal, it has a value, it wasn't looking expensive.

It was there, they took it, simple as that.

This is how it is now, not how it used to be, I'm not naive, we couldn't have had a much shabbier object. :wall:

It's obviously endemic Sheila; I often see dumped bikes in our local park.

Could you get me one, Clare?

Feeling upset at the thought of the time, effort and expense in restoring a 2nd bike, then an expensive lock, without much confidence it won't happen again.

OH still wondering if it's worth doing, the time it will take as well as new tyres, nuts, cables etc, and we're not very practised at this. We don't want to get part way and then realise it's too much expense or beyond our capabilities.

But, will def. be getting a lock or two as suggested and researched on this topic. :D

Sorry, Teabag. I wasn't ignoring what you said. We're only joking around the extent to which shabbiness skews the odds in your favour, but we're well aware it's still no guarantee and that the bad luck fairy ignored common sense and paid your daughter a visit anyway.

I think people are just trying to be helpful.

:D Thanks, yes I know that, and what you and Claret say is true. Just finding the situation frustrating, I appreciate your posts. :D

Yes, I took it that way, I'm frustrated about the crime.

Goodness, I can't type fast enough today, I had replied to Clare & was pressing submit post to the Major.

The fact that it was stolen in shabby condition is frustrating, Omleteers have been very helpful as always, and it's much appreciated.

Have you thought about adding the bike to your home insurance? I don't think it is that expensive (depending on the type of bike) and they may also pay out for any locks/accessories too. (If it gets stolen, which I hope it doesn't)
