meezers
It's now day 21 and one of the eggs under Muppet is pipping. Will be interesting to see what happens after posting my 'candling query' on day 8 ( see below) Amazingly, it's the 'completely dark' egg that is pipping - everything on the net told me this would be a no go . Fingers crossed it makes it and it's healthy. I'm so excited , it's better than Christmas Watch this space. It's now day 8, I've got rid of the one clear egg ( and it was clear )I now have 4 left which don't look as they are supposed to I can't see veins ( but I couldn't last year and they hatched - think my torch is not strong enough) two eggs I can see the yolk as a dark blob, can't work out if it's fixed or floating , is this good ? 1 egg I can see a dark bit but it's not yolk, the 4th, which I was sure was fertile seems to be completely dark except for the air sac- I'm assuming this is not good - it looks as though it's on day 20 not 8 please tell me the 2 with dark yolks are worth waiting for, or should I ditch the lot and start again . The eggs are under a broody so I don't want to wait too long before deciding to replace them.
meezers
The chick is out of the 'black egg', it's alive and drying under Muppet, it's a gold top chick ( Silkie X Light Sussex), so when it's dry I should be able to tell if it's boy or girl. No sign of the others pipping yet, hope it's not going to be the only one.
meezers
Well nothing else has pipped ,though Muppet is still sitting, so I'll keep my fingers crossed a bit longer. Would be ironic if the only one hatched is the chick who was supposed to be a dud And the icing on the cake ,the chick is a boy ever so cute though, just hope he gets a friend.
