charity events

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I need a bit of help. A close friend has recently lost her husband. He lived his last days out in hospital. They hope to put in a garden at the hospital, but it will cost a lot of money. I was thinking about maybe doing a charity night in our area to raise some money. I have never done anything like this before. I actually haven't been to a charity night!

So, I need any ideas on whether you think this is a good idea. What sort of things to do at a charity night? Basically, I need help with everything!!!

Thank you in advance.

Raffles, bingo nights, quizzes with a bit of food & drink. I recently went a charity night for Christies Hospital. We each paid £5 a ticket for cococktail & cupcake. Cocktail was like a fizzy wine fruit punch & cupcakes were mini ones - but the night was fab. There were people from local shops with stalls - a good advert for them & good for sales & drumming up business. There was a handbag stall, a shoe stall, chocolates, salon treatments & nail bar, Avon, Body Shop, books, cards, jewellery. They had a raffle, an auction ( take that tickets & footie shirts) & a dj. There was also a fashion show done by the local shops. A true ladies pamper evening in a Wetherspoons type bar. It was packed - so a brilliant success.

A few ideas there for you?

The ones that I've been to have been dinner/dance type ones. They always have a raffle and also usually an auction (had to make OH sit on his hands at one point - he wouldn't stop bidding  ) We've always loved the excuse of getting dressed up and having a boogie.

You could do an afternoon garden party type thing with sandwiches and cakes as you would like a garden for the hospital. It would be handy if you could find somebody with a big garden willing to lend it out for an afternoon.

The events we had at the boys secondary school included race nights which were always popular. There are lots of companies on the 'net who you borrow all the gubbins from. You then take a percentage of the money. We always had a raffle at the race nights too. People are usually quite generous in giving things for raffles/auctions. You could always have a time auction, people doing things for other people. Might be quite nice as its for a hospital, gardening, housework, babysitting etc.

Good luck and I hope you manage to raise lots of money.
