Atilla-the-hen
With the onset of summer months (I think!) and the mornings light at 4.30, my chickens are longing to get out into their eglu run. Of course their pop hole is shut and I cant bring myself to get up at that time to let them out. I know you can leave their pop hole open if your going away for the weekend, but does anyone leave theirs open all the time. The run is foxproof, I know, but I still quite bring myself to do this. Advice please.
Omletina Kyckling
The pophole on my Cube is open 365 days a year. They can come out and get food water when they want and I don't have to rush down to let them out!! The only downside is mine do shout a bit in a morning, sometimes at about 4.30 - I think they can see foxes across the fields!!
snowberry
Only a nuclear bunker is completely fox-proof imho....; I send the kids to let them out
Sam
There are many posts regarding this topic; I'd say the opinion is pretty divided. Some leave theirs shut just as a precaution, but many others leave it open all year round (me included) and I have had no problems. I guess you need to assess your own situation - I believe my run is fox proof so feel confident leaving it open. I'm guessing you have the eglu run, so I would feel safe leaving mine open eta: have a read of this & this I don't think you can use the search option yet, but when you can just have a search for 'leaving eglu door open' or something like that. There are many threads to have a read through

I have decided that as I've only the chickens a couple of months, I wont risk it yet, hopefully, I will get a bit more blase about it later on. Enough said. I'm lucky - my eldest is 10 so still keen to be up - so he does the opening up (but its still 7 so the hens have enforced lie ins here)
