bashed my car

Recommended Posts

I was parked at the hospital yesterday and came out to find that someone had driven very close down the side of my car scratched it and smashed my wing mirror to pieces and had driven off :x No note, thankyou so much!!!! Ive had a quote of £670 to get it repaired. with a £300 excess is it worth putting it through the insurance?

So sorry to hear that, I get so angry about people who do that sort of thing - I got a big dent in the door of a my car a few years ago when parked at a charity I volunteered at - kind of put me off - didn't mind giving my time for free, but when it actually started costing me money ...

Do you have a protected no claims bonus ? Does it allow one claim every couple of years or something like that ? Tough call really, have a good look at your policy. If it's not a very new car, could you get it fixed up for less than £300 by a cheaper garage using parts from a s"Ooops, word censored!"yard or something ?

I'd try not to claim unless your insurance is expensive anyway.

My previous car was once stolen and used in a series of armed robberies (!) - it needed a large amount of work to fix and my protected no claims policy premium went up 20% (like I say, it was a large amount of repair work).

Protected no claims does exactly what it says on the tin, it protects your no claims, not your premium.

My garage gives two quotes -an insurance quote which covers everything, and a 'private' quote, which is less thorough. For example when I backed into a tree last year, if I'd claimed on my insurance they would have taken out the whole rear windscreen etc. For a smaller sum I had the dent bashed out and it looks fine to me.

I had something similar a couple of years ago - huge dent across both doors and rear panel, wing mirror ripped off and "Ooops, word censored!"ody to claim from. It was going to be over £1,000 and so I claimed on my insurance because I couldn't afford that. I have protected NCB and as far as I recall my premium didn't go up. The NCB is what gives you a discount, but car insurance premiums are going up generally anyway so it's hard to say if an increased premium next year will be caused by the claim or by the market increases. :?

 the man at Aviva tells me today that if I use the body shop reccommended by vauxhall they will add another £200 to my excess because its not on their list so I'll end up paying £550 towards a bill for £670. So my helpful chap yesterday will not be able to do the job, he was very understanding. Aviva are going to pay him for replacing my wing mirror because it had to be done ASAP.
