Is Diatom on its own in the chicken house effective enough at preventing red mite? My wooden house and run was new in March and I sprinkle it liberally inside and out with Diatom (including nest boxes and all the nooks and crannies).

Just wondered if I need to do poultry shield treatment regularly as well and also if I should be dusting the chooks with anti-louse powder as well?

I have heard that you can make a paste of Diatom and Poultryshield and paint it in the house. If you do this, do you still have to rinse it off?
