Hello All,

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Go and the Classic? As far as I can see apart from the shape the only difference seems to be that the Go has a removable nest box. I am a bit confused why Omlet sell two such very similar chicken houses - or have I missed something? The Go is cheaper but I can't really see why.

I've no experience with chickens and I want to start with either the Go or Classic and preferably three chickens as I have read that two can be a bad idea (I think in case one snuffs it or in case one is a bully). Please comment if you don't think that is the case.

Can anyone advise whether I should go for the Classic or the Go. I like the look of the Classic, but the Go is of course cheaper.

thanks in advance for any help!

Kind regards

Scooch

I have had both and prefer the classic. It looks totally different and I personally like the curvy nature of the classic but that's just me. The Go is in more pieces and I found it a bit fiddly when you take it totally apart (which isn't often to be fair) For me the big problem was cleaning it out. The classic poo tray fits nicely into a bin bag to empty shavings etc into, whereas the Go poo tray is bigger and more awkward to fit in the bag. And the roosting bars of the classic stand nicely in a bucket while you wipe them down but the Go roosting bars are all in one piece and won't fit in so I ended up leaning it against a wall to wash them. :? I would always choose a classic over a go. They are a little bigger too so you could sleep 4 lf in one if you let them out to fr.

I think the idea of getting 3 is in case one dies so the other isn't left on it's own. My advice though would be to get as many as you have room for as you will want more!

hiya,

the go also lacks a proper eggport, so you have to barge past chooks to get to the eggs :)

I have a classic with 2 ladies in it, and they're fine :) neither of them look to be on their way out, but I'm hoping to rehome some chooks this weekend anyway, so if one did ( :( ) then the remaining one wouldn't be alone :)

EDIT: we got our (pink eglu) secondhand on ebay from someone upgrading to a cube - it cost us £220 in all with a 2m run - so the go isn't ALWAYS cheaper ;)

I'd agree that it can be a bit tricky getting to the eggs especially in the winter if you come home from work after dark like I do! But i'd say the Go is bigger inside actually.

I find both easy to clean, but the tray is easier to pull out in the Go - my classic tray gets a bit stuck sometimes. You also have to scoop the bits out of the nest box, whereas you can tip the whole lot in the Go out in one go.

I think the front door (run end) is better in the Go. I always feel there is a gap on the classic whereas the Go secures in a flusher (is that a word??) fashion!

The Go is much better for hatching (in case you want to do that later ;) ) as the inside is flat.

From what I've read, I think the main reason the Go is cheaper is because it is made in China while the Classic is made in the UK. The Go is more modular so it breaks down flat. That makes it easier to ship and that and the Cube are the only kind we can get in the US now. The Classic had to be shipped by bus which was expensive and annoyed people who had to drive to the station to pick it up, or worse, hire a delivery truck to get it. The Classic has a more funky look, like some kind of spaceship or piece of modern art! I've never owned the Classic so I can't compare their ease of use. I do kind of like the fact that the entire back wall of the Go comes off and gives you access to the interior. Also, the Go allows you to move the run door to the side if that's an advantage for you.

Another big difference I think is the run. Any extra extensions on the 'Go' are all the same where as in the 'Classic' you first need to add extension 'A' before you can add as many 'B's as you want.

BTW the longer the run, the more access difficulties there are in both Classic and Go, but they can be overcome by customizing openings along the runs.

I do not own a Go but have seen one in the flesh and I prefer the Classic. Its shape not only looks gorgeous it's also more practical because the outer shell being in one piece means there is less leakage in the rain and less nooks and crannies for mites and bugs to hide.

Classic all the way.......

I have the go, my friend has a classic from Ebay. I feel like the Go is bigger inside. I like that the trays are completely removable and can be hosed down while leaning against our fence. I do wish the nest was at the back as you have to pull out the whole tray to add nesting material. I collect my eggs from the front as I have a walk in run but for egg collection the classic has that convenient door. Now, if you ever want a walk in run, it seems the Go is easier to position outside as you wouldn't need access to the side.

I've got both, and much prefer the Classic. I really miss the egg port on the Go, and we found it quite tricky to put together - that might just be because OH and I are not very practical of course, but it took us ages and the air was blue at times!

Both are great products, and your hens will be very happy in either tbh. As others have said, it would help if you could see them in the flesh.

Thanks for all the advice so far. I have only seen the Go in the flesh, I haven't seen a Classic. I guess also it would be best to do a side by side comparison which might only be possible at Omlet HQ. I am leaning towards the Classic, but please keep the advice coming!

Many thanks everyone!
