Henergy
I've just made a call to my chicken sitter who is also a breeder and booked to go visit him on Saturday to pick out two new girls. I'm specifically thinking of a 'non-brown' egg layers so possibly cream legbar or legbar hybrid. He's also got some speckledy marans - not sure what egg colours they are. So we will soon be doubling our flock (DH has said no to 3 more !!!)
Chortle Chook
I think that Marans lay very deep brown eggs, almost like chocolate eggs.

Henergy
Hello Claire - Nice to meet you. I'm in Plympton so only 10 minutes away. We are getting our new hens today from Taylor Made Poutry which is at Dinnaton, so really close to you. I do know that there is at least one other Omleteer nearby, as the delivery man who dropped off our cube, had another one in the van for a Plympton address too ! Henergy
The chicken place is called Taylor Made Poultry. Its run by a young entrepreneurial lad called Matt who has a great set up & some beautiful well kept hens. http://taylormadepoultry.co.uk I will certainly be giving you a call - we should get together & talk chickens !!! Thank you for your number. Best wishes Lisa
Henergy
So here are the new girls - Layla the Devon Rock (ideas on a postcard please as to what she 'really' is !!) and Megg the Speckeldy Maran meeting my Columbian Blacktail and Bovans Nera. They've been sizing themselves up all day & I let them mix for 10 minutes. My Bovans was not worried but the Blacktail went beserk & is not coping with new friends. I waded in & split them - she looked so spiteful (and she's normally the placid one !!) I know that it was sensible to just get 2 but I remail un-cured of this dreaded disease & am already planning what next !!!! Help me please
