Chicken boarders

Hello, this is my first post on the Omlet forum and need some advice. My wife and I purchased the normal Eglu with 2 much loved chickens (Nick and Margaret) in May 2009, sadly Nick has been unwell for the last 6 months and we have been nursing her along.

 

Unfortunately Nick didn't come out of the Eglu this morning and I want Margaret to have company. I know my wife will be upset when she finds out this evening but I was hoping to have a plan ready to introduce 2 new chickens to stay with Margaret.

 

Any advice on purchasing chickens (near London or Essex) and introducing them will be very much appreciated.

I just wanted to say sorry and welcome as well. You've got the right idea, chooks are flock animals and prefer company; and I'm sure your wife will appreciate your thoughtfulness as well.

Good choice of names, btw. Did your Nick have the same range of facial expressions ?

Yes Nick had the same judging glare.

 

Margaret looks sad and lonely at the moment, so hopefully i can pick up a couple of friends this weekend for her.

Sorry to hear that Nick has lost her fight. I thoroughly recommend Kirsty at Hens4Homes - you have to make an appointment, but she has lovely healthy chickens at POL, and a good range of breeds.

Poor Nick - I do hope you can get some friends for Margaret.

 

We have just nearly completed our first introductions & my advice is to just take it slowly. I tried to rush the chooks & they rebelled. They are all happy now.

I've just arranged to collect 2 ex-battery chucks this Sunday and I'll read up on all the posts about introductions before trying to get them to fit in with Margaret.

Hello everyone

 

i just wanted to thank you all for your advice, since poor old Nick went to the great chicken run in the sky.

 

We collected two ex-batts yesterday and are hoping to integrate them soon so will definitely be checking out the forum for advice!
