Removal Companies

Recommended Posts

We are moving to North Devon early next year from Gloucestershire where we have lived for over 20 years. Just wondered if anyone had an idea of the cost of removal companies :?: I think we would only need one van and maybe 2 men as we will not be taking any kitchen or bedroom furniture with us. I have got costs for estate agents, solicitors etc but don't have a clue how much this is likely to cost.

Best to get a couple of quotes, it's some years since I did a 'big' move (from the East Midlands to London) but as I recall it was hundreds rather than thousands. Check whether they will supply boxes, whether you have to 'pack' things like the TV or whether they will do that, and whether they supply wardrobe carriers for clothes so you can load them straight in.

Removal men are worth their weight in gold - I have done a 'self-move' once, never, ever again! Next time I move I will pay for them to do the packing as well - worth every penny. Good luck.

We moved from Leicestershire to Staffordshire last December and used Britannia Removals. Since DH's new company paid relocation fees, we were very lazy and paid for britannia to pack up our 3 bed house as well as do the move. The total cost was £1300. Hope all goes well for your move and wish you well in your new home :D

When we moved 5 years ago I got a lot of quotes because I was so stunned at the wide variation between the first couple. We did end up going with the cheapest (not for that reason) and were actually thoroughly impressed. (without one of the men we'd have ended up with a flooded kitchen in the house we were leaving but luckily he knew how to stop a leak!) Like Olly we will never self move again.

We did pay for packing and the extra was worth it, firstly for the stress it saved but also as otherwise the insurance wasn't valid. Different companies have different rules about insurance, packing, boxes and extra charges -for example if you are delayed past a certain time due to traffic or not completing in time -so make sure you compare more than just the financial side.

When I moved from Bristol to Northampton I used these guys http://www.rjremovals.co.uk/?gclid=CMW4-OCa2aoCFRBTfAodRzyc-g they were absolutely brilliant and provided a faultless service - nothing was too much trouble. I think the basic cost of moving the contents of a 2 bed house (not appliances as they were left) was about £600-700 then we paid £300 on top for the removal of our giant garden plants and trees

Hello! I moved three years ago to north Gloucestershire and used a company called Cotswold Carriers (they are based in Chipping Norton, so might be a bit far away from Cheltenham) They were a truly fantastic firm, the two guys who did the moving were just fantastic, I had complete faith in them - I had tropical fish to move (no chickens then, fortunately) and I spent the morning of the move catching the fish, but the guys were fantastic at loading the tank and all the water (packed separately) and they made sure they put all the "fish stuff" on the lorry last so that it would be the first thing to be unpacked. Really nice guys and I would thoroughly recommend them. As to cost, I think it was about £500 (but I really can't remember, it may have been much less - and I was only moving about 15 miles) but whatever it was, they earned every penny, they were fab!

We are just moving house and becoming semi retired hopefully, although I might get a little job a couple of days a week if I get a bit bored. I have worked continually since leaving school which was quite some time ago so not sure if I will find it a bit strange not working but at the moment I would have to say I am looking forward to have time to myself to do what I want to do. :talk2hand:
