the-marks
After weeks of procrastination between WIR or upgrading to a cube with 3m run I've finally decided on the cube!! Going to be ordered on Monday! So now that decision has been made, I've be forced to sit down all afternoon researching which new girls I'll need to get in order to fill all the extra space! Any advice on which breeds would be more suited to being confined to the run, with my 2 hybrids, when I'm at work all day? Thanks!
Henergy
Well done on your decision !1 Took me ages to decide on my cube vs WIR. Can't really advise on chicken breeds though. I guess as long as they are not as big as the Orpingtons I saw today at the local show, any should be fine
hammy72
My Goldline is a nice size but she only has to share with a Light Sussex who is slightly bigger.
Mum
I've just reached the opposite decision on the Cube vs WIR dilema; I'm opting for a WIR instead. Enjoy your Cube and good luck in finding the right hens to fill the space

hammy72
I am still contemplating between the Cube and WIR options (and trying to save my pennies). The cube seems quite a big housing area compared to the outdoor space that they get. What would you say is the minimum number of chickens to house in a Cube. I currently have two and was thinking that I might add another two. They will also get let out into a netted area when we are at home. I have 2 in there at the moment, but I'm moving them back to the pink eglu as we're getting 4 hybrids to put in the cube with them soon. I'm hoping to get an Amber, a Skyline, a Blue Haze and a Speckledy Marans. So I will have 6 hybrid girls in a 3m cube run. I think that's a nice amount! If I get this new job I'm going for, we'll build a WIR.

the-marks
Hi Hammy72. I agree, the cube does seem slightly top heavy on coop space compared to run size. I've currently got 2 girls and will get another 2 to go with the 3m cube. I also allow them out into a netted area when at home. They used to have the run of the garden until they ate it!! Good luck with your cube vs WIR dilemma!! Mark
sadietoo
I have just got some new girls to go in my cube. I agree that the coop size is a bit disproportionate to run size, and so I have opted for big but relatively lazy girls...I have a Light Sussex and at the moment baby orpie, and two baby brahmas. I think that will be fine for the run space and coop space....just got to get them all intergrated
