Griffin
I thought this day would never come Princess Michael of Kent is the broody gold Brahma that was given to me by a friend four weeks ago. Another friend was hoping to send me 12 Brahma eggs but hers were on strike and she could only send 5 and topped up the box with a Fresian Fowl egg. I bought 6 Leghorn eggs on Ebay. Princess Michael decided she didn't fancy sitting on 12 and kept kicking some out of the nest or moving and leaving some behind. So during the first couple of days the eggs were chilled. I took 8 away and put them in my incy. At first candling all of the Brahmas were clear but the FF and most of the Leghorns were good. By second candling I'd lost two Leghorns so decided to put all of the remaining fertile eggs, all five, under PMoK. On day 18 when she left the nest I noticed she'd squashed and killed the only Fresian Fowl egg I cried buckets over that poor little chick, so perfect in every way Yesterday was day 20 and the white Leghorn had pipped. By bedtime so had the blue Leghorn. I went to bed excitedly hoping this morning I'd wake to find two chicks but the white Leghorn was dead in shell It'd made quite a big hole so I've no idea why it didn't make it Thankfully about an hour ago the blue hatched A very healthy gorgeous little chick PMoK is very pleased with her new addition. I can feel movement in the brown Leghorn egg but no sign of the red mottled yet. Knowing how chilled it might've got early makes me think it might be late. I really really hope they hatch

Griffin
Rest assured there will be photos tomorrow I've even sourced some day olds if nothing else hatches so Little Miss Blue Leghorn will not be alone.
Griffin
No sign of the others hatching. I'm going to collect a couple of chicks that are almost family. I gave a friend in Swindon one of my green egg layers a few months ago. These chicks are from her eggs. I've no idea yet who Dad is, the last time I was there the only cockerel was a lemon cuckoo Pekin and I think he'd need a step ladder

Griffin
PMoK is thrilled with her new family. I opened the brown Leghorn egg this morning because having felt movement in it yesterday I knew it must've died. There was a lot of fluid in the egg and my friends theory is that the heavy rain we had over the last few days of development caused the humidity to be too high. That would make sense because when Bridget last sat on eggs she lost a lot at full term in heavy rain. She's still on the red mottled egg but I'll take that away tomorrow if nothing has happened. Griffin
100% boys. PMoK is still with them but as soon as she gets bored they'll all be off to the great chicken coop in the sky This is only the third time I've managed to get nothing but boys, the majority of my hatches seem to produce a good proportion of girls, it still sucks though. scarlettohara
What a shame, just shows that saying 'hatch early and you get boys' is a load of old drivel
