I agree with fluffy chick, I don't have the patience to deal with ill people. I worked in a GP surgery when I was a student but luckily was kept away from the patients. Hope your day improves. One patient said I looked 5 yrs younger after my holiday - suspect the 5 years are rapidly piling back on with extras added I despair of the great British public and its flu season fast approaching and guess who they want to do O/T? scarlettohara Posted August 29, 2011 Author Share Posted August 29, 2011 I had a 10 minute 'discussion' with a man who didn't have an appt (big no no) and said he was dizzy and couldn't stand up - he was standing in front of me I offered him an appt in an hours time - but no he wanted one in 2 hours time, wasn't very ill then was he ? Sent him home with a flea in his ear to ring and be triaged, then had a young woman complain she had had to wait past her appt, she was too ill to sit there apparently (she had a cold ). I work in a hospital, but am non-clinical, thankfully, as I don't have any patience with ill people either (ask my husband ) - and the people we see are often very ill. They are also often not too bright. I've lost count of the number of times people have walked past the clearly signed loos and into my office - thankfully they've always noticed me before they've got their drawers down . Other times they just walk up and down outside my office talking loudly on their mobiles, while I am trying to concentrate, but the worst was the elderly lady who phoned me (wrong number) demanding to know why her transport hadn't arrived and what was I going to do about it? I explained several times, very politely I thought, that she had the wrong number and I was unable to help her, but as a parting shot she told me I was hopeless! I would have transferred her to the right number (it was on her letter ) but she had really annoyed me , and I'm afraid instead I told her that she was very rude, which wasn't very professional of me especially as I'd given her my name and phone number several times! I normally get along with most people that come to see me but very occasionally the odd one either tries to treat me like Im stupid or makes crude remarks all of which I can handle. I have given her a full 20minute lecture on the perils of diabetic feet (gangrene being the worse to no avail) its her funeral.
