Hi, have got 2 of my girls in the hospikal wing! aka !! they are in there as they have sniffles and sneezes, they are on baytril for this. they are desperate to get out and free range, breaks my heart to see them iin the run all day, i have given them thiings to keep them occupied and everything but its not the same for them, so can i let them free range for abit?not with the others i know but on their own for an hour or 2? or is this something strictly forbidden? thanks xxx

It depends whether they are suffering from something infectious - what did your vet say was the problem? Being confined to the run won't do them any harm for a few days.

Vet didnt know exactly but thought it was a chest infection, they will have to be in there run for at least 10 days, as thats how long they are on the baytril for, after that can i let them out?

I'd err on the side of caution. If it's nice,sunny and warm and they aren't passing infection on elsewhere then I would, but if it's weather like we've been having lately (showers - and a lot of them heavy) then I'd make them stay under cover. They do try and manipulate you - I had to fence off the upper part of the garden much to my girls disgust. They begged and whinged but they have got used to it now. Hard I know, but tell them it's for their own good!

Oh and another thought - if their medicine is in their drinking water, they might (and probably will) slurp up all the puddle water and not get the medication they need. Maybe best to wait until they've finished their meds.

Baytril is being given to them via syringe, which surprisingly isnt that hard to do, its been a hole in one so far! they do look so sad, they obv know when to pull heartstrings! when they have finished the baytril though (10 days) can i let them out? vet suggested 28day egg withdrawal, is this correct?
