I was so pleased to see the sun this morning until I noticed how many flies it was attracting to the Eglu for their annual day out

 

I can cope with most things just not flies and our garden is very small with the Eglu positioned very close to our house and our neighbours' and they were in the garden with their grandson. I gave the run a sweep through, washed where I could reach but still flies. Having had a rummage around the 'useful cupboard', I found some fly papers that can be used around food and animals. I haven't used them before so read the instructions carefully and pulled, the tube bit which is supposed to stay on came off. By the time I had it sorted, I was covered in sticky gunk. Half a litre of sunflower oil later and I am still a bit sticky. Needless to say, I have left the flies to it and binned all the fly papers Even the chickens seemed to be

I've used fly papers in the house and everything sticks to them ...... except flies!

And no, the gunk doesn't come off if you touch it!

Its the stickiest substance known to mankind I am convinced. We used lots of flypapers on holiday last year - we were in a gite in rural France and there was a real plague of bluebottles. My dad was quite successful with the flypapers indoors but we still couldn't eat outside.

He put a paper up over the outside eating area to try to clear them off and only succeeded in trapping a fledgeling sparrow; when I found it the poor thing was hopelessly tangled and ripping it's skin trying to escape. I had to put it out of its plight. None of us will ever use flypaper outside again

We used to get swarms of flies in the loft during the summer. They were so bad when we first moved here I wondered whether there was a dead body up there

 

We started using fly papers to try and get rid of them until we also discovered that we have bats roosting in our loft - sadly one had got stuck on the paper and died

 

I wont use them at all now.

I've tried the sticky sunflower stickers & they are just as bad! Flies aren't attracted to them & if you accidentally lean against them then you have to cut your hair off
