Egluntyne
Have just found about 20 maincrop seed potatoes which I left to chit ages ago and forgot about! They look a bit shrivelled, have tiny leaves and weird purple blobs behind the leaves. Is it safe to plant them? If so....am I too late. Tara.F
certainly worth a try you can plant salad types at this time of year for a xmas crop so I don't see why not. They'll stop growing at the first frosts and the foliage will die back so remember where you put them! might be worth growing some in black sacks as it is awfully hard to dig spuds out of frozen ground

Guest
I've got some white potatoes that i forgot to plant - i take it that they will be fine in a tattie bucket now - does that mean that if I plant them now, I'll have Christmas potatoes? Lesley
Yes, I'd say the same as Tara. Find somewhere sheltered to keep them as the weather worsens. We grew some for Christmas in the polytunnel a few years ago.
Guest
Fab! I like the idea of popping into the garden for the Christmas spuds, rather than standing in line at the shops for three hours to pay for them!
Egluntyne
These are the potatoes which I forgot about. I planted them in compost bags, and put them at the side of the garage, where they have thrived on neglect all through the recent deluge. They are ready to be earthed up! The Dogmother
Mine went in late too Egluntine (although not as late as yours), they are going great guns, climbing out of the bags and trailing along the ground!
