my garden is a corner plot so people can sometimes see the hens, yesterday i saw a teenage girl trying to take a photo of chryssie, i went out and asked her whats she taking a photo off and she said "chicken" and i said no thankyou, this is my property and garden and i dont want you to take photos of it, you are supposed to have permission

would anyone else feel the same? i would be so peeved if my house ended up on facebook etc, i would consider the police

anyone know any legal bits or advice? would anyone else feel like this?

I'm not sure what the law says, but since most of our houses are on Google Street View, I'm guessing that you don't need permission to take a picture of someone's house. I expect she just wanted a picture of a chicken - nothing sinister.

I agree with Olly. It would be a different matter if the picture was of you, or of something that could identify you such as a car registration. Not sure how you could police that one though!

Unless she was on your property she wasn't actually doing anything illegal.

I would be a bit uncomfortable too if I caught somebody taking pictures of me and mine without asking me first.

 

What she is done is not illegal though - but it sounds like it wasn't done with sinister intentions.

I wouldnt be too happy either but I dont think there is anything you can do about it apart from scare her off like you did

 

If that had happened to me I would be worried that someone was taking pics for a complaint so I'd be vigilent for the next few weeks

The fence at the end of my garden is 4ft high with 2ft trellis on top, so the neighbours who back onto it can see into my garden easily.

I frequently see the neighbours poking a camera through the fence to take photos of the hens doing amusing things

Its illegal to take a photo of inside someones house (im not sure about garden) without permission from the outside (we done this in ICT!).

its your property, so if you dont give her permission to take photos, and she still takes them, I think you can still call the police
