Caution - strange accident with Cube

Recommended Posts

Today I was attempting to clean out my cube - I say attempting as Lavender was determined to save her egg and climbed back into the partially dismantled cube to protect her egg in the nest box. I had the back and roof off the cube. So I put my hands out to pick her up and lift her out of the nest box and I managed to somehow 'punch' the edge of the metal runner, which holds the roof on, with the edge of my bent thumb. This resulted in a large, deep cut from the knuckle backwards on my thumb. It was under the skin, as if I'd cut it with a knife, leaving a flap of skin on the top.

After washing the wound and putting the cube back together while clutching a tissue to the thumb, I realised that it was possibly going to need checking. So 2 plus hours later the lovely student nurse (under supervision, of cause!) washed the wound, put some of the sticky 'stitches' and a dressing on it.

So just be aware guys - it was probably just my habit of misjudging distance (I am a bit of a clutz) and sheer fluke - but just in case, be careful when the roof is off the cube.
