Gloss-Hen
What breed do you think I should hatch? I have hatched some madams before But I want something a bit more challenging any ideas
Egluntyne
I'd wait till next year now. It is too late in the season, really, to be thinking about it for this year. The roosters fertility will have reduced, and the weather is too cold.

Egluntyne
The possibilities are endless! Have a read up on the different breeds ove the winter and see what would be the most suitable for your situation ... and have a think about what you will do with any roosters you may hatch. craftyhunnypie
Unless you have a nice cosy shed or workshop - I would wait until about April. They will be at the going outside stage right slap bang in middle of Winter. I've toyed with the idea of hatching more - so desperate for more silkies, but have decided to buy some at point of lay instead once I've bought some more housing. It's hard to say no to yourself, but kinder to the little chicks! Emma.x
Griffin
I've hatched in November before but those chicks then spent all winter in my garage under heat. Very expensive and very messy! This year I've been very restrained and let broodies do all the work for me If you cannot decide what to hatch, try hatching breeds that are more likely to go broody so that you can then use them in years to come. Brahmas & Silkies are the way to go!
