hammy72
Thought my light sussex, Snowflake, was just pecking shiny things on my clothing but she tried to peck my eye yesterday (I do wear contact lenses so perhaps they caught the light). Do chickens try to dominate people? If so, how do I stop her?
Space Chick
It probably is the light from the contacts... They are attracted to shiny things and red things... I've never known a chicken to try and dominate a human.... Manipulate them for treats... But not dominate
AlisonH
Yes, I agree, they certainly go for shiny things, jewellery especially.
memphisto
My light Sussex is terrible for pecking at my engagement ring, she'll also peck the glass of our patio doors, I'm assuming it's because it catches the light. Totally agree they manipulate you for treats though!
hammy72
perhaps she thinks that I am one big treat and thinks she will peck me!
migsy
My poor 5 yr old got pecked in the eye (luckily only on the lid) the other day and it made him bleed.
lillybettybabs
Fran pecks at the dogs any opportunity which is rather funny as she bosses them around. She's inside at the moment due to a impacted crop (greed eating during moult) i have been pecked and she managed to get hold of the string on my hoody. squiffs
I think eyes even without contacts are a shiny attraction to all birds - our cockatoo used to be enamoured with trying to peck at them, and I won't let a chicken get close to my face for that very reason. My OH had xena on his shoulder a while back and she pecked him in the eye, making it water a lot, he squealed like a girl! I said 'what do you expect if you let her that close to a shiny glistening surface! she doesn't have fingers!'.
hammy72
thanks Squiffs, yes she had jumped on my shoulder like a parrot!
surfer_chicken
My chickens like to peck teeth, and are very interested in my glasses
