fantasticjudyann
I really need some help here. I've just got back from a day out and went to see the hens as usual to check on them and collect the eggs etc and found Josephine lying down dead. She seemed perfectly fine at this time yesterday so I am wondering what on earth has happened. She has not laid for quite a long time but is only around 2 years old. I lost one of the same age and flock a few weeks ago. She had peritonitis and had to be PTS. Can anybody help please? I am distraught. mollyripkim
Oh you poor thing, what a horrible thing to come home too, so sorry. I am sure someone with more experience will come along but unfortunately I think it just happens sometimes. You can console yourself with the thought that didn't suffer. Tweety
I'm very sorry to hear that. Sadly, as mollyripkim says, sudden unexplained death is not uncommon in chickens, and unless there were any symptoms of illness I think that this is what has happened to poor Josephine. The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that. Sudden death in chooks is usually down to a heart attack; their hearts aren't very strong and if it's any consolation she probably had no idea at all, just went suddenly.
