Rag Wreath Making

Recommended Posts

Instructions as such.

You need a wreath metal ring, draw round the outside of it & the centre hole too with marker pen onto Hessian sacking.

Leave a good amount of hessian around the marker pen ring - cut out square shaped, as the hessian frays terribly. You can turn it under with tacking if you want to stop this.

Then rip up strips of rags to about 1 inch wide strips. Cut to equal lengths. Our tutor had a wooden block tool for this with a groove in, that we wrapped the strips round then cut along the groove.

Then we took our proddy tool, made a hole in the hessian on the wrong side where the drawing is, took our strip & prodded one end through. Then about 4 strands away made anoth hole & prodded the other end of fabric through. We went round the outside ring first, then the inner, then filled it in. You can also make flowers by making a whole on the right side, pushing a crochet hook through & catching a longer fabric strip, pulling it through to make a loop. You repeat this to make ' petals' & can put a pine cone or button in the middle.

When your wreath is finished, cut out the wreath ring carefully - not too close to your ragging - cut out a felt ring, by drawing round the outer & inner of the wire ring. Carefully stitch on the wire ring to the back. Then glue the felt ring over the wire ring to hide all your mess! Stich a ring pull from a coke can to use as a hanging hook.

Hope that all makes sense - it's just rag rugging & dead easy!

I'm planning a gingham one with red bows & bells! Just need to source the rags!

Oh the tutor's website is here http://www.ragartstudios.com/ She also has another website where she has her creations..http://www.zalingai.co.uk/ She is only about 4 miles away from me! :D
