I've got an Eglu Pet that my piggies live in during the summer.

I got it second hand, so I don't know if it was always like this, but piggy piddle pools in a puddle underneath the tray inside. Fluid doesn't drain out of the two holes in the base and so it is very tricky to wash out - I have to brush the water towards the holes.

 

I just wondered whether anyone else had experienced a similar problem, or if I should contact Omlet to see if there is a solution?

I love that line.

No advice other than to suggest you try a more absorbent bedding material, and maybe alter the 'slope' somehow so that it drails away more freely.

 

Are you certain that it is not condensation?

I use Rapport at the moment, as the absorbent layer in the tray, and also have been having to put some under the tray too, as it gets very whiffy otherwise during the day when it's warm - it's definitely urine!

 

It's such a deep dip under the tray, that I can't incline it enough to get it to drain - in fact, the holes in the base are that much higher than the surrounding plastic, that it cannot ever fully drain unless I detach the run and tip it upside down.

I had a pet eglu for the bunnies and when I washed it, the water didn't really drain out of the holes underneath the insert tray. My bunnies are litter trained and despite using the tray inside as their litter box, they never managed to get piddle underneath the tray insert. could you pop a high-sided litter tray inside it?

Thank you. It sounds like the shape of the Eglu I've got is normal then. I'll try and train them to mind the gap when they are piddling! Maybe I'll put a strip of card in the slot that the have to step over - so that they can't squat above it, what with having short legs and big tummies!

Ahh, I see, they are piddling into the gap at the front of the tray. I thought they were doing what bunnies do, and piddling high and over the edges.

A couple of sheets of kitchen roll placed below the tray may soak up the worst, I'd also maybe sponge it out rather than brushing

 

Megazorb bedding is apparently very good, I'm not sure if its suitable for GP though but maybe worth looking in to

I had a look on a few piggie pages and they were raving about Megasorb for them, so thank you for the hot tip.

It is lovely and soft - I think they will prefer it to the hemp / rape type stuff. We'll see!

I've been using the Megazorb and it is brilliant - really absorbent, so wee corners are well contained and the rest of the bedding stays dry. No smell either! Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi, do you get your Megazorb locally? I have never been able to find any!

I got it from what was called Peterborough Feeds. I think they are now called Gladwells or Gladwins and have several other branches. They have all sorts of bedding.
