Uma
Hi all, Currently we have a cube with extension for our three girls. They FR around our land (about 1 acre) and don't spend much time in the run. However, in the past one of our hens has been very poorly (although back to normal now ), and we thought about getting a sick bay for the future. Also we are planning on adding to the flock next year and would like another 'short stay' home for the newbies for introductions. I don't want to spend an awful lot as it probably won't be used all that much, so looking for any suggestions?! Many thanks, Uma
poppy ben grace
Hi, you could try looking for a second hand wooden broody style coop. My oh made me one bless him. You can pick them up reasonably cheaply, or you may get lucky and find an eglu going for a song! Other ideas are dog cages which you can pick up from ebay.Good luck, its always handy to have a spare coop/run.
coco
I use an old rabbit hutch as a sick bay, other than that I have a small broody coop and run. Have a look on Preloved.
sparkysmum
I don't think it would be too difficult to make a small enclosure out of mesh & wooden batons. But if you should need something in a hurry I have a spare eglu run which you would be welcome to use. Alli x
Leicester_H
I have a medium size dog cage that folds flat and is stored in the garage. I've used it a couple of times as a sick bay (in the kitchen or utility room - ie warmer than outside). I tie a stick across as a perch. The bottom tray slides out to remove the droppings. I sit it on a bit of old tarpauline, folded slightly up the sides (held on with pegs) to keep the aubiouse in It works well. Also, being a proper cage, it is fox-proof and so can be used outside. Redwing
As already suggested dog crates and rabbit hutches make good sick bays A rabbit hutch with a run makes a good intro/temporary house I recently bought two small 'Lopen' coops and runs from these people, I am very pleased with them, they are more sturdy than the cheap imports and are very good price http://www.everythingpoultry.co.uk/#chicken-houses-c-1.html
