2009 Omlet cube and run for sale

Hi All,

I have an Eglu and 2 chickens being delivered tomorrow

 

I plan on having them on the patio, we have quite a small garden (30'' x 20' at a guess) and just seeded a new lawn.

Will they be ok here for the winter? I intent on putting them on the grass in the summer and letting them out most days (supervised).

 

I’ve bought a bag of bark from B&Q as I cannot find hardwood chips anywhere!

How do I secure the run (from foxes) on the patio?

In regards to the eglu being on the patio, you may wish to weigh the skirt down though, people use bricks etc.

Well, they are now asleep in the eglu. They were still out at 8 so I put a torch in there to lure them in and closed the door

 

One of them has a floppy comb, is it anything to worry about?

Are they at point of lay? I only ask as a floppy comb implies it's quite big which is it wouldn't normally be in a young hen. A floppy comb isn't generally anything to worry about if it's a normal pink/red colour - some breeds just have tend to have them.

They are from Omlet so I think they should be laying in 4\5 weeks?

It's pink so looks healthy!

The delivery chap said to not let them out for 5 days, although they are looking a little bored just standing in the run!

Do they really need to wait that long? They have been clipped and we have a high fence so not much chance of escape.

Most people don't manage to last the full 5 days . If you let them out just before dusk, they should all toddle off back to their run as the light falls. A cup of corn will encourage them if they get lost .

totally agree with ANH you dont know how much power you have when you walk around the garden shaking a tub of corn
