Plum
This is the fabric for the glass case I must find a book on embroidery stitches
Goosey Lucy
What about Lucy have you collected any threads yet? Yes And I've got a fat quarter of fabric And I've spent a day with the lovely Angela getting to grips with my machine (which behaved beautifully), picked up a few tips and tricks and want to start straight away! However time is against me at the moment, the children started Half term today so for the next week I'll be doing things with them. I've also sorted out all my old threads and have found out how I can use them in my stitching. If I can fit it in, I will try and take some photos of my purchases so far
Snowy
Well done Lucy! Plum that looks lovely! Nice muted colours - I can almost feel a migraine coming on after spending the day with fuchsia, lime, lemon, turquoise and orange! Do you have an iphone or ipod Plum? I downloaded the app of embroidery stitches which is quite handy as I can sit it next to me and follow the steps Trouble is you can get too adventurous - I've noticed the simpler stitches tend to look the most effective
Plum
They are bright colours Snowy but the fabric needs it. Are you making each panel different? I haven't got an ipad or iphone but have been searching online must get the printer out. What colour's your fabric then Lucy. Take the kids to the grandparents I'm sure they'll understand you and your machine need to be together
Goosey Lucy
Meant to say before that your piece looks lovely, Plum Unfortunately the Parents-In-Law are a plane journey away, over on my lovely little island there's only me, OH and the boys, family visits are by financial arrangement with Flymaybe My fabric is a batik piece of mostly pinks and purples So far I've bought a range of threads that I'm now worrying won't stand out as they're from the same colour palette, oh no, will have to buy some more
Snowy
I made the same mistake Lucy! I have mixed in quite a few deep, dark colours such as navy and burgundy to add depth, and some creams and pale oranges. My original palette was a bit too overpowering. Plum yes, each panel is different - the first one is the worst, the second one was better, the third is better still! I'm debating undoing some of the stitching on the first one now! Plum
I did a lot of unpicking on first piece because the stitches were too bold. When they didn't stand out at all I used some beads.
Kazzy73
Wow wow wow beautiful stitches and the colours are wonderful is the material hand dyed of bought like that Plum?,is this just from following a online course its amazing, getting my sewing machine monday so a bit scared at the mo not used a machine since I was about 10 omg !!! I am in awe of all you needle working marvels.
Snowy
It's an on line course Kazzy, see the first page of the thread for details. It is a great way to get to know your machine - I'd only ever used mine for straight stitching before this, every time I tried the fancy stitches my thread broke or snagged so it put me off! I now know which threads work best with which stitches and what tension to use. And the work is really easy to do, it's a very simple concept that looks so effective once done. Plum
It's batik we're using. If you read the first pages of this you will not be so much in awe GooseyLucy is just starting the course now.
Plum
Just realised I never put a picture of my finished stitch bible. It's getting lots of use.
Snowy
That is gorgeous Plum! My stitch bible is an embarrassment - it's 3 strips of fabric of varying widths and lengths, unbound. And most of the stitches were done before I adjusted the stitch length button, so they come out completely different anyway
Plum
Well my pages are warts and all but I may redo them some day
Kazzy73
so pretty and such a great idea, will be hunting out some material for when my sewing machine comes tomorrow. Its only got 24 different stitches but I think thats plenty to get me confused with. Adelochick
Gosh Plum, even if it's just your stitch bible, it looks amazingly gorgeous! Well done you, happy sewing, Jx.
Plum
Thanks I'm ridiculously pleased with it. Kazzy it won't take you long to make a stitch bible then. We sewed the stitches at their default setting then widest and longest and narrow and shortest. They can look so different so you'll find you have more like 50 or more. A zigzag can be just that or shorten it to make satin stitch

Snowy
Oooh very nice Plum! How did you make it then?
Plum
7 x 7 in square sloped one side to make top and folded in half and rounded corners. Then opened and zigzagged round all sides. Zigzag rat tail cord to top edge and without disconecting fold in half and continue down side and bottom catching both together. Then went over top side and bottom again. Easy peasy
Kazzy73
That is so pretty, love the cording, have been playing with s"Ooops, word censored!"s of fabric and trying some of my stitches but eldest daughter has been making her old to small twilight t-shirts into cushions so had used it more than me lol

Purplemaniacs
That is beautiful Plum Lovely colours. I only ever go forwards, backwards or zig zag when I have finished studying perhaps I should investigate what else I could do, if I can find where I have put the machine Chrissie
