Bantam Australorp?

Recommended Posts

After much deliberation on what my new addition should be, I THINK I've decided on a bantam australorp.

Most important is that they stay inside their run, but also I was looking for slightly more regular eggs.

Can anyone tell me if they'd be okay with my very chilled out silkies and if I should clip a wing, would they stop inside a 3-4 foot fence?

Or any other virtually flightless chicken suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

Hello, I have a bantam Australorp and she lays every other day  I currently have my bantams in a 3 metre run and let them out into a fenced off area last year. She wasn't bothered about trying to fly over the netting but she did squeeze herself through one of the holes in the bottom! She is the top hen and is very pretty with beetle green feathers. Go for it!

Super duper, thanks for that! I only want to top up my silkie's occasional egg supply so every other day would be perfect... I might even get 2!

Where did you get yours from? I've noticed that you're in Notts, I'm just south of Sheffield and cannot find any breeders up here for the life of me!

Well I got mine from Susie at Pages Poultry in Burton on Trent - www.pagespoultry.co.uk

It was quite a trek but it was worth it. She has a lot of choice so I would give her a call to see if she has any. I knew I wanted a bantam Australorp so came back with her, a partridge wyandotte bantam and an Old English Game bantam who was following us around the place! Let me know how you get on.
