Poor Lavendar will have to go!

Recommended Posts

I spent Saturday rigging up a separated section for the babies in the WIR so they can get a little closer to the oldies and with all this wind and rain needed to get them a little cosier.

Shut the Oldies out in the paddock whilst I settled in the babies, turned my back to clean out the !goyellow! before I put it in with them, and Lavendar had flown over the metre high mesh. Then spent another 45 minutes rigging up shower curtains and bits of mesh from the !goyellow! run to stop her flying over.

Then I let the oldies back in. Marigold who is tiny, was a little skittish and jumped out of the way. Lavendar and Chilli squared up to each other on each side of the mesh and Lavendar displayed the most fabulous set of neck feathers.

Mmmm, not having seen the breed in real life so to speak, and I know that there can be different varieties, off to my books to look at pictures, I had a sneaking suspicion that my new baby girl was a new baby boy.

Because of all of your help on the forum, I did know before I went to look at the Araucana's that they were very difficult to sex and had made sure that I could return the chuck should she turn out to be boy, so I thought I will give the breeder a ring this morning and just ask them if I should expect my little girl to have such long plumage on her neck.

Lavendar decided that she would confirm it for me. This morning I let them all out and went to fill up the drinkers and HE gave me the most wonderful crow  Then he did it again, just to make sure

I do so wish I could keep him, the neighbours are great and love the chickens, but they won't if he starts crowing at four am in the summer.

Such a shame, but fortunately we were only a week into the intros, so I am hoping that the new baby will get on with Marigold OK, then we can wait a few weeks before they get to play with the big girls.

So I have had to ring the breeder, and we are going to arrange to swap for another.

Have to say, the breeder has been brilliant.

Went along this afternoon and swapped Lavendan for lavender mark 2.

Very pleased to report that I popped her in with Marigold, (bought from the same breeder last week) they had a little look at each other and were fine. Was a little worried, a week is a long time to a chicken and I don't have room to split the run 3 ways :?

So if you are looking for a breeder in the northwest ( Wirral) would highly recommend them.
