I've been searching for some wood-chippings for my run but none of my local garden centres have any in right now....I suddenly remembered a wood recycling company about 5 miles away that a friend uses for shavings bedding for her horses, so I got their number and called them.

The lady who answered was very helpful, yes they do sell wood chippings, there's 3 different grades/sizes available, hold on a minute and I'll put you through to Adam.... Adam duly answers, I explain that I'm after some hardwood chipping for my chicken run in my back garden....

 

"Certainly Madam, how many LORRY loads would you like?"

 

I explained that I was after something like about 6 sacks (horse feed sized sacks) "Ahh I see!" says Adam, "Do you have a trailer?" Ummm, nope, but I have a 7 seater 4x4 and LOTS of empty feed sacks I reply... "Oh OK then, nip over whenever you like, the lads will show where the chips are, help yourself" he says, I ask how much "Nah, nothing, we spill more than that when we're loading the lorries up, help yourself!"

 

Went from the most baffling 'phone call to the most rewarding one in a split second!!!

Thats great. Its well worth people for looking for a business like this close to them, I have a lovely friendly wood processing place near me that doesnt sell woodchips sadly but they do sell me 'rough' woodshavings at £3.50 for a massive bag. a few smiles and lots of thanks goes a long way with these little places
