pips_pekins
Hi. I've not been too well recently which has made me feel quite low so my wonderful OH has suggested a few days away to try cheer me up. We have only visited the Lake District a couple of times on day trips and have no idea where to go or stay. We are going during Feb half term and would like to be as much away from the crowds as possible as we are travelling child and dog free (feel a bit mean about the dog but she stays with family friends who spoil her rotten). We would like to be able to dump the car and spend our time walking (I can manage easy+ grade!) We would also like to be within walking distance of a friendly pub. We are on a budget and are members of the YHA but they are pretty booked up and besides for this trip we would both appreciate a bit more luxury. Any ideas? Oh and sorry for the long post. Reikiranf
I've never been there so can't recommend any, but whenever I want to go anywhere I look up Bed & Breakfasts & Hotels in the area and then look up the reviews on Tripadvisor, we've stayed at some lovely places, made some good friends and have never spent more than we wanted to Good luck with your search, I hope you find somewhere great and your trip does you the world of good
pips_pekins
I've never been there so can't recommend any, but whenever I want to go anywhere I look up Bed & Breakfasts & Hotels in the area and then look up the reviews on Tripadvisor, we've stayed at some lovely places, made some good friends and have never spent more than we wanted to : Thank you. I've always used trip advisor in the past but the last place we stayed was not at all like the reviews indicated and so it has slightly shaken my faith. Just thought I'd try here as well particularly as there are so many different towns/villages which we don't know.
patsylabrador
This isn't a recommendation as I've never been here, but it's something I've looked at in passing. Fallbarrow Park which is on Lake Windermere I think. Might be worth checking out. It looked quite nice.
Smudge
We stayed at the Waterhead Hotel in Ambleside the last time we went up to the Lakes for a long weekend - granted that was a year and a half ago now, but someone we know stayed there last year and was just as impressed. This is their website if you want to check them out.... http://englishlakes.co.uk/hotels/waterhead/ It's not basic B&B but if you want to pamper yourself a little it's ideal; we found the hotel to be of a very high standard, the rooms spacious, and the staff very friendly and helpful. Old Speckled Hen
This is a lovely pub not far from Windermere http://www.themortalman.co.uk/ OR if you want to really get away from it all try this pub in Stonethwaite in the Borrowdale Valley http://thelangstrath.com/ OR if you want a go at the Langdales you can't beat http://www.odg.co.uk/home/index.cfm?id=1 These all do B&B
pips_pekins
Thank you all for taking the time to reply. They all look really lovely. I've now booked somewhere which looks very nice so fingers crossed. I am looking forward to this break as we've had a difficult few months. Couperwife
Me and kev stayed in The Stags Head, in Bowness on Windermere. The bed was lumpy but the hotel itself was great, staff were excellent, and food was plentiful we did B&B. We were a minutes walk from the town/lakeside and we walked for miles (I think we clocked up about 70 miles in the week ) I love the lakes Cathy X
bigmommasally
OH & I stayed at the Lodore falls hotel about 6 or 7 years ago, it was lovely. Probably my only disappointment was that there was a road between the hotel and the lake which you can't really see from the photos. It looks like it has been refurbished since we stayed http://www.lakedistricthotels.net/lodorefalls/index.php
Redwing
Not quite a B&B but a few of the chaps at my old workplace stayed at the Lonsdale House hotel in the Lake District and enjoyed it http://www.lonsdalehousehotel.co.uk/
